  • AI features in your product

Python (FastAPI or Django), OpenAI, Claude or Gemini, pgvector, evaluation

Trial task, for example: One AI task checked against a fixed set of examples, with failed cases traced and fixed

  • Mobile apps

React Native and Expo, store billing or RevenueCat

Trial task, for example: A purchase, restore or booking flow, including its failure cases, in a test build

  • Quality and releases

Playwright and API tests, GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps, Sentry

Trial task, for example: One critical journey covered by tests, including permission and failure cases

Your repository, pipeline, tracker and chat, with your review conventions. AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor or Claude Code are used only if your policy allows them, and the engineer can explain every change they submit.

Who does what

You own

  • Priorities and requirements
  • Product decisions
  • Access to your tools and internal approvals
  • Accepting completed work

Octacer handles

  • Matching the engineer to your stack and hours
  • Availability, leave and cover
  • Regular performance check-ins
  • An escalation contact at Octacer
  • The same engineer stays on your work unless a change is discussed with you first
  • A replacement, introduced first, if the match is not right

Code review and technical direction sit with your tech lead. No lead in-house? Add our Tech lead role, or choose a Forward Deployed Engineer to work directly with whoever owns the product.

Before you reach out

Is this right for you?

Capacity works when you already know what needs building and need more hands that can carry it.

Yes, this is for you

  • Agencies with more client work than engineers
  • SaaS teams with a funded AI or product backlog waiting on hiring
  • Teams that want staffing, cover and replacements handled for them, not freelancers to manage
  • You can give an engineer a real task and access this week

Not this. Go here instead

  • You need one workflow automated, not ongoing engineersAutomation Sprint, from $750
  • You need a whole first release delivered, not engineersMVP Build, fixed quote
  • Nobody on your side can set priorities for the engineer
  • You are looking for the lowest hourly freelancer rate

How every role is billed

One price per engineer per month, shown beside each role above. No recruiting fees, no long contracts.

  • First week free: 5 working days, one engineer, one trial per company
  • Full-time is 40 hours a week; half-time is 20 hours at 55% of the rate
  • Billed monthly, first month in advance. Stop any time with 14 days’ notice
  • You keep the trial-week work either way
Full terms
  • The free week follows a backlog call, and paid work starts only on your written approval
  • If access or onboarding blocks the trial, we pause it and reschedule the remaining days once, within two weeks
  • A written progress update every week
  • Public holidays and planned leave shared in advance, with cover arranged for longer absences

  1. 0130 min

    Backlog call

Walk us through your backlog, stack and hours. We check there is ongoing work, the rate fits, and someone can review the engineer. Then we propose an engineer and a task sized for a week.

  2. 02Short call

    Meet your engineer

A call with the proposed engineer. We confirm their skills, hours and responsibilities in writing, so you know who will access your systems.

  3. 035 working days

    Free trial week

With access and a reviewer ready on day one, they work on the task in your repo under NDA. You keep the work either way.

  4. 04End of week

    Review, then monthly

On day five we review technical quality, communication and working fit together. Paid work starts only when you approve it in writing.

Chess Rocket

Six engineers working as the product’s engineering team for five months

Our team owned delivery across web, iOS/Android, admin and backend, working in weekly rounds set by the client’s feedback. We shipped every feature across all four codebases at once and moved releases to gated dev, pre-prod and production environments on Azure.

6 engineers · ~5 months · ongoing

“Took Chess Rocket from idea to live product, building puzzles, real-time play and community features that just work. Highly recommended.”
Kenny Campbell · Chess Rocket

Before

  • Every feature had to land in four separate codebases
  • Store purchases did not unlock premium on Android or show on iOS
  • No separate environments; changes went straight to users

After

  • Weekly feature rounds shipped across web, mobile, admin and backend
  • Store subscriptions fixed end to end
  • Gated dev → pre-prod → production releases, with an onboarding handover

LadyLight

AI engineers who grew into the platform team

Our team owned the backend and AI features alongside the client, first as a build and then on retainer. We moved a browser extension’s model calls behind a secure per-team backend, shipped new GPT-builder features, and added server-side roles and error monitoring.

5 people · build → retainer · ongoing

“Really happy with LadyLight. It looks great, works smoothly and you can tell a lot of care went into it. Great job!”
LadyLight · Client review

Before

  • Model calls made straight from the browser
  • Prompt edits not reaching production

After

  • A per-team backend for every model call
  • Prompt changes live again, with monitoring in place
